CONSIGNOR HIGHLIGHT
Levi and Rachel Harris
Levi and Rachel Harris’s passion for horses and ranching runs deep, along with their dedication to honesty and transparency in all their dealings.
Levi and Rachel Harris are a ranching couple who share a deep passion for horses and livestock. Levi's love for horses dates back to his earliest memories, spent on his family's fourth-generation ranch in Drewsey, Oregon. Rachel discovered her love for horses at a young age and developed a passion for roping during high school and college rodeo.
Levi and Rachel met at Treasure Valley Community College in 2009, where their shared dreams and passions merged. They got married in 2011 and currently work for Alfred and Carol Dunten, just west of Drewsey, only a few miles from where Levi grew up. They consider it a blessing to be doing what they love, and to get to do it with each other and their family horseback.
Apart from running cattle, the couple also enjoys starting a few colts each year and working on bettering their broke horses. When it comes to selecting horses, Levi and Rachel believe that two of the most important physical qualities to look for are the legs and back of the horse. They prefer a shorter back but without losing the structure on the withers that can hold a saddle well on a long day in steep country. Good legs with plenty of bone are also critical. They believe that a horse needs to be well-rounded and capable of thinking things through. "All horses have strengths and weaknesses when it comes to their mental abilities," Levi say, “We enjoy finding those unique qualities in each horse and building from that.”
Levi and Rachel have consigned several horses in the Ranchers Horse Sale over the years. Levi and his family have known the Bentz family for a long time, saying “We take our horses there knowing that everyone involved in putting on the sale is 100% honest with us as consigners and those that come to buy. Our main priority is that everyone that buys from us goes home with confidence in their purchase and knows that we have been completely transparent with them.” Levi and Rachel’s main priority is that anyone who buys from them goes home with confidence in their purchase and knows that they have been completely transparent with them.” We always tell people “if we’re not selling the ones we love then we’re doing something wrong”
Looking to the future, Levi and Rachel's dream is for their three children, Sterling, Emeri, and Ira, to continue to share their passion for horses and cattle. “There's nothing better than trotting out with young kids mounted on horses that you’ve trained and trust.”
“Our main
priority is that
everyone that buys
from us goes home
with confidence in
their purchase and
knows that we have
been completely
transparent with
them.”
