CONSIGNOR HIGHLIGHT
Zeb Ramsden
As a young returning consignor, Zeb Ramsden represents the next generation of horsemen—capable, committed, and ready to carry the tradition forward.
Zeb Ramsden is a newer face at the Ranchers Horse Sale, and he’s already making a strong impression as a young, returning consignor with a bright future ahead of him. With a solid foundation in ranching and horsemanship, Zeb brings well-rounded horses to the Sale. He represents the next generation of horsemen—capable, committed, and ready to carry the tradition forward.
Zeb was raised in northeastern Oregon, running cows through the rugged terrain of Hells Canyon and along the Snake River, north of Joseph. His family ran a cow-calf operation, retaining ownership of yearlings and marketing them through a grass-fed beef program established by his parents. From an early age, Zeb was a part of the operation. “We didn’t have hired hands,” he recalls. “So my two brothers and I had a lot of responsibility on the ranch to get the job done.”
Today, Zeb splits his time on a ranch southern Idaho in the winter and the McCall, Idaho area in the summer. He runs his own cattle as well. “We have spring and fall pairs, as well as yearlings on grass year-round to produce fat cattle,” he explains.
His daily work puts his horses to the test. “My ideal horse is one with cow instincts since we sort a lot of cattle in a rodear and doctor yearlings year-round. I want a horse with a good mind because I put him through the test on the day-to-day work I do.” Zeb draws insight from the horsemen around him and the disciplines of cow horse and rope horse work. “I try to be a very observant person and pick up on the things that a lot of different guys do.” The result is horses that are seasoned, versatile, and ready to meet a wide range of needs.
Zeb produced horses that are ready for ranch work but versatile enough to go in any direction a buyer might choose. “I think my horses will fit anyone and I take pride in that. I would like to see my horses go to a place they will get a lot of use, as I rarely sell a horse under five years old—so they have their prime years left in them to work and be productive.”
This year, Zeb is returning to the Ranchers Horse Sale for his third consecutive year, consigning Lot #12, Tailored Tuxedo, aka “Canada”. He values the consistency and community of the Ranchers Horse Sale. “They are great people, put on a good sale, and bring people that want to buy good horses from dependable people,” he says. “I like that the sale has many consignors who consistently bring horses year after year.”
Looking ahead, Zeb is focused on growth—both in his horse program and his cattle operation. “I’d like to keep making very versatile horses that have the ability to go any direction they are set,” he says. “Eventually, I’d like to raise my own colts to start and sell. I’d also like to increase my cow herd so I can raise a family the way I was raised.”
As a young consignor who produces a great product and is as authentic as they come, Zeb Ramsden is a name to watch.
